Joseph Bentzel (center) looks upon the wreckage of the B-17 Flying Fortress he flew during World War II. The aircraft, which is known as the Chowhound, crashed in Normandy during the liberation of France, killing several of Bentzel's colleagues. He was an engineer and the top turret gunner on the aircraft. Both Lt. Col. Dennis Duffy (pictured left) and Lt. Col. Jonathan Bradley (right), played key roles in retrieving the Chowhounds remains after they spent more than 50 years in a French farmer's barn. Bentzel visited the wreckage here June 9, and said it difficult to see the aircraft in its current condition after seeing fly so many successful missions in his youth.
