514th AMW brings home big awards in media contest Published Feb. 29, 2012 By Robins Air Force Base Public Affairs 2/28/2012 - ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga -- The 514th Air Mobility Wing at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst took home big awards in the Air Force Reserve Command Media Competition and in the 2011 Air Force Media Contest. The 514th AMW won eight awards in the AFRC competition and Tech. Sgt. Shawn Jones, 514th AMW won print journalist of the year in the AFRC competition qualifying him for the 2011 Air Force Media Contest, in which he also won. Jones was among 20 individual and unit award winners in the AFRC who advanced to the service level competition. The AFRC contest ended in late January and consisted of 300 unit and individual print, still photo, graphic art and broadcast entries from 27 organizations throughout the command. "The quality and quantity of entries continues to improve with each year," wrote Lt. Gen. Charles E. Stenner Jr., AFRC commander in his memo to unit commanders. He thanked the contestants for their "dedication and superb work in telling ... stories to the American public and our Air Force family." The 514th AMW also took home honors for their Freedom Flyer magazine, which was named the best publication in the AFRC competition. "We appreciate your hard work and applaud your enthusiasm," he wrote. "We look forward to seeing more success stories in the 2012 contest." Jones made recognition in many other AFRC media contest categories including: -First place in the news feature category. -First place in the personality feature category -Tie for second place for news article. -Third place for human interest feature article. -Second place for sports article. -Second place for photojournalism.
