The Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst All-Stars ice hockey team pulled ahead with an all-time 3-1 record against the Dover All-Stars after a 5-3 win at the fourth annual charity fundraiser game played March 12 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pa.

The teams, from Dover Air Force Base, Del., and here, compete annually in a charity fundraiser match that supports military families in need. Proceeds of the match are donated to the Combined Federal Campaign.

CFC is an annual workplace charity drive. More than 200 CFC campaigns are held throughout the country and internationally to help to raise millions of dollars each year. Annual pledges made by federal civilian, postal and military donors support eligible non-profit organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world.

Collectively the teams raised $1,250 for this year's competition and nearly $6,000 over the past four years. Through CFC, the funds from Saturday's game are earmarked for the Airmen Memorial Foundation.

Staff Sgt. Joshua Gorring of the 32nd Air Refueling Squadron was named the most valuable player for scoring 4 of the 5 goals JB  MDLmade to clinch the win.

"I had a lot fun skating," said Sergeant Gorring. "What made it more enjoyable was we were playing for a good cause and helping someone else out too."

The joint base 16-member team is comprised of active duty, Reserve and civilian players and prepare for each year's match with practice sessions at an ice rink in Mt. Laurel, N.J.
Bragging rights and the Commander's Cup trophy remain at McGuire until next year's match. The date for the 2012 fundraiser game has not been set. Those interested in playing can contact team coordinator, Staff Sergeant Michael Ramos at (856) 404-8513 or e-mail mnramos25@aol.com.
