Reserve aircraft maintainers, aerial port and logistics members prove their mettle as the Air Mobility Command Logistics Standardization and Evaluation Program inspectors found them in compliance with safety and technical regulations during the May 4-11 inspection held here.

"The objective of LSEP is to send teams to visit bases and evaluate how well they (unit members) are trained and ready to perform their logistics mission," said Col. Thomas Clark, LSEP team chief.

LSEP teams are comprised of Reserve and active duty subject matter expert evaluators from Scott Air Force Base, Ill. Evaluators from other bases also join the AMC headquarters group to make up the full complement of team members with as many as 60 people.

Team findings were announced May 11 at an out brief held prior to the team's departure.

In attendance were representatives from the 514th and 305th Air Mobility Wings, 87th Air Base Wing and 621st Contingency Response Wing. Units from these wings, all assigned to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, underwent the assessment.

Inspectors rate the units as being satisfactory, excellent or outstanding. Units that don't meet standards receive an unsatisfactory or marginal evaluation and must undergo another LSEP inspection in six months. The current routine interval for inspections is 18-24 months.

In addition to the increase in Air Force operations, inspections remain a necessary part of the culture, according to Air Force officials.

"McGuire is extremely busy with the amount of air flow and maintenance work that is accomplished here," said Colonel Clark. "Yet, everyone maintained a great attitude and was eager to show what they're capable of doing," he added.

Others agreed.

"Everyone worked diligently and did what was needed to get the work done," said Chief Master Sgt. Christopher Young, senior enlisted manager of the 514th Maintenance Group.

"I'm constantly amazed at how our Airmen perform," said Col. James L. Kerr, commander, 514th AMW. "The fact that we're meeting the Air Force's high standard with tremendous day-to-day wartime demands, while simultaneously training and developing leaders with so few (just) baffles me," said Colonel Kerr. "Our Airmen are the greatest!"

LSEP team members recognized four members of the 514th AMW as outstanding performers. They are: Senior Airman Chester L. Tyson, 514th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron; Technical Sgt. Ernest K. Nikolaus, 514th AMXS; Technical Sgt. Anthony C. Tanzosh, 714th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and Staff Sgt. Dana C. Rolewicz, 514th AMXS.

"Now that we have the LSEP behind us we need to focus on the Operational Readiness Inspection and do the same thing there. I'm confident we'll knock it (ORI) out of the park," said Chief Young.
