Capt. Michael G. Fuentes, chaplain with the 514th Air Mobility Wing at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., presided over the Protestant worship service at the Dix Chapel here this morning.

Fuentes, a federal prison chaplain in his civilian life, delivered an energy-filled sermon entitled “God is in Control,” during which he expounded on the theme of resiliency found in the Book of Daniel.

Fuentes used the reading to encourage Airmen to maintain hope and live the Air Force core value of excellence in all we do.

“Young people, whatever you’re doing, be the best!” said Fuentes. “You can do it. Tell somebody, ‘You’re going to make it. We’re going to make it!’ No matter the tribulation. No matter the trial. God has hope for you today.”

Fuentes’ inspiring remarks were well-timed, as Air Force Reserve leaders are calling for a Resilience Tactical Pause through the end of 2019, in an effort to highlight the need to train and support resilient Airmen.

With the recent increase in suicides among Air Force members, the Air Force Chief of Staff and Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force launched the resiliency program to foster connectedness and morale across the total force.
