Members of the 514th Air Mobility Wing's staff recently attended an informational session hosted by the Vet Center, aimed at increasing awareness of services available to veterans.

The session was led by retired Master Sgt. Darryll L. Johnson, a former crew chief who retired from the Air Force in 2004 and has worked as a readjustment counselor with the Department of Veterans Affairs ever since. He discussed eligibility requirements and outlined the range of services provided by the Vet Center, including counseling, medical referrals, and employment assistance.

Johnson emphasized the importance of connecting veterans with care that meets their evolving needs.

“Making sure we get connected to services to enhance or maintain quality of life,” he said, “is the most rewarding part of my job.”

His experience, both as a veteran and as a counselor, gives him a unique understanding of the transition challenges service members face and the value of tailored support.

The session offered Wing staff an opportunity to strengthen partnerships with veteran support networks and ensure Airmen know where to turn for help — whether currently serving or long after leaving the military.
