The coordinated terrorist attack in Paris on Nov. 13 is a loud reminder why the continental United States has been at Force Protection Condition Bravo for six months.

It remains important for all personnel in the JB MDL community to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and actively complete random antiterrorism measures.

Our shift to FPCON Bravo in May was primarily driven by a non-specific threat increase from homegrown violent extremists (radicalized citizens supporting the wishes of international groups like ISIS/ISIL). The Paris attack, Russian airline bombing over Egypt, and May's Garland, Texas, shooting are strong examples of the range and complexity of potential risks to people, especially at off-base locations.  But agencies at all levels of Federal, state, local and international governments are working hard around the clock to learn about potential attackers before anyone is hurt.

As members of the JB MDL community, we are all charged with taking action to protect lives and resources both on base and off. To do that, follow these suggestions:

* Ensure you know how to evacuate, shelter-in-place and lockdown in the places you visit most often.

* Reduce your vulnerability by minimizing government or military markings on clothing, vehicles and homes and reduce or eliminate similar markings on social media.

* Work with your agency antiterrorism representative to support his/her efforts towards making your facility(ies) harder targets.

* Have at least a basic emergency action plan no matter where you go, and share it with your peers or family members.

* Travel in groups of two or more whenever possible as a buddy system to either deter or defend against hostile attacks.

* For foreign travel, stay current on travel restrictions and Department of State information for any and all destinations.

For additional information, contact your agency ATR, or the JB MDL AT Office at DSN 650-1396/1397/1611; Comm 609-754-1396/1397/1611.
